Canadian citizen, Simon Morris realises amazing bronze sculptures, inspired by the underwater world His work have been exposed during the International Festival of Underwater Pictures in Antibes in 1999.

Diver since many years, Simon Morris combines in a stunning realism the anatomic precision and the fluidity of those habitants of the deep.

He started to sculpt steel at the age of 14, armed with a soldering iron. Bronze became his favorite material since 1987.

If several of his sculptures are exposed on open air, his passion for the underwater world leaded him to conceive sculpturs that lies now several feet under the surface.

All his sculptures are really finished once in the water.

"Their coloration is the result of the action of chemical elements that works with the bronze and give this particular colour » he says. “It’s the chemical composition of the environment –pH, salt, minerals from rocks and reefs surrounding- that add the final touch, the sparkle to my work". He likes to believe his sculpture are here for eternity.

He’s the creator of a creature that appeared on many magazine’s cover throughout the world: a bronze mermaid, nine feet tall. Two exemplar of this sculpture are immersed in 2 differents sites : "Amphitrite" in Grand Cayman (Florida) and the "Emerald Princess" in British Columbia.

Simon Morris was recently charged by the « Artificial Reef Society » of British Columbia to create a memorial dedicated to the Canadien Merchant Marine. This creation was placed on the HMS Cape Breton before this was sunk nearby Nanaimo, British Columbia.

Deeply concerned by the ocean’s protection, Simon gave two sculptures to the « Ocean Futures Foundation ». He’s member of the “Oceans 2000” comity from this foundation.

His last project is to create of monumental sculpture called « guardian of the reef ». Antic warrior with the body of an seahorse, stuck to an old column, this statue’s purpose is to remind us the need not to forget the deep oceans, invisible victim’s of our excess.
